Excuse Me, Can I See Your I.D.? I Mean… Nutritional Facts?

Let’s face the truth, if you are 21 or older, going out with your friends to bars and parties is a big part of your college social life. However, with a gluten allergy, it is not only important to pay attention to what you eat, but to also pay attention to what you drink, too. In this blog, I will inform you on what alcoholic drinks to avoid and why, and what you can and should drink as a gluten intolerant. Since I am not of drinking age, I asked my dad, who is gluten free as well, what some of his favorite gluten free drinks were.

Gluten Free Doesn’t Mean Alcohol Free!

Yes, being gluten intolerant does make your social life a little more stressful. Gluten free drinks are more difficult to obtain, they are a tad more expensive, and most people do not even realize that alcohol contains gluten! However, having a fun social life that includes alcoholic beverages is not impossible! There are many ways around it and easy alternatives to your typical alcoholic beverages.

Have No Fear, There’s Gluten Free Beer!

Unfortunately for the beer lovers out there, beer does in fact contain gluten. It is made with hops, barley, and other non-gluten free ingredients. However, you do not have to give up beer forever! Thankfully, the gluten free gods have created delicious alternatives. Below are a few gluten free beers suggested by my dad along with his ratings on them:

  • Glutenberg
    • 4 out of 4 stars

Vodka (Hold the Penne)

What comes as a shock to most is that Vodka is not always gluten free. Depending on the brand, it may contain gluten. Some gluten free vodkas, along with their ratings, are:

  • Tito’s
    • 4 out of 4 stars
